Bodylab – A VR laboratory for full-body avatar sculpting and painting
Humans have an inherent desire to change their appearance. Virtual reality could help explore all different kinds of bodies and their impact on our minds. Bodylab is a first step towards a virtual reality laboratory where one can experiment rapidly with ones virtual appearance by painting and sculpting the virtual body. Having a virtual full-body avatar in VR is deeply connected to the concept of embodiment, i.e., the sense of feeling that the virtual body belongs to one.
In the demo the user is able to use VR together with a full body tracking system to control an avatar matching ones body proportions. The virtual avatars appearance can be changed by painting different materials or particle effects onto the body. Furthermore is it possible to sculpt the body, change its scaling or change body measurements and gender completely.
